ATHLETIC & SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS TRUSTEE Info

The U.S. Naval Academy Athletic Scholarship & Programs (A&SP) Trustees are individuals selected by the Trustees who believe in and support the mission and objectives of the U.S. Naval Academy with a strong emphasis on the physical development and athletic excellence of midshipmen as fundamental to the development of Navy and Marine Corps leaders. Trustees serve on a variety of committees, all of which exist to fulfill these objectives. Trustees serve for a three-year term. The number of active Trustees is limited to 250. Although most Trustees are Naval Academy graduates, they need not be.

NOMINATING

Trustees are nominated by incumbent Trustees who serve as sponsors. Candidates must have a proven record of support to the Naval Academy and/or the Naval Academy Foundation. Alternatively, candidates without such a proven record may have the potential to provide the expected support in the future. Sponsors will work with the chairman of the Membership Committee to ensure that the candidate is fully qualified to serve as a Trustee. Candidates are considered by the Membership Committee semi-annually, and the records of those recommended to serve as Trustees are forwarded to the Executive Committee via the Policy Review Committee. Candidates endorsed by the Executive Committee are eligible for induction within the limits of the Trustee ceiling.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Individuals desiring to be considered to serve as a Trustee must submit the following items via his/her sponsor. The sponsor will forward the package to the chairman of the Membership Committee with a letter of recommendation. All items may be submitted electronically.

• A statement of interest, expressing why the candidate desires to serve
  as a Trustee.
• A detailed biography, including (if applicable) notable accomplishments
as a USNA Midshipman. The biography should include a description of
all activities demonstrating support of the Naval Academy and/or
  Foundation.
• A digital photograph.

Minimum REQUIREMENTS

Trustees are required a minimum annual donation to the Naval Academy Foundation of $2,500 in each fiscal year. This donation will support The Fund for Athletic Excellence (minimum $1,750) while also covering Trustee Annual Contribution (dues) of $750 to support A&SP operations.

Emeritus Status

After a significant period of service as an Active Trustee, a Trustee may request elevation to Emeritus status. Such requests will be considered by the Membership Committee and the Executive Committee. Active Trustees approved for elevation to Emeritus status are eligible to attend all A&SP events and are not required to pay annual dues. They may continue to serve on A&SP committees, but may not serve as chairman of any committee. Emeritus Trustees do not count against the 250 Trustee ceiling.
