ADM Mark Ferguson III ’78, USN (Ret.)

Admiral Ferguson, a systems engineering major, played varsity lacrosse and graduated tenth in his class from the Academy. He completed nuclear power training prior to entering the fleet as a surface warfare officer (nuclear).
He retired in 2016 as the Commander of Allied Joint Forces based in Naples Italy. His flag officer assignments included service as the 37th Vice Chief of Naval Operations, the Chief of Naval Personnel and the Navy’s Chief of Legislative Affairs. He holds a master’s degree in computer science and was a national security fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Following retirement, he worked as a senior advisor at McKinsey and Company in their aerospace and defense practice. He has also served in an advisory or consulting capacity for NATO, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Institute for Defense Analysis and the Center for Naval Analysis. He presently serves on the board of directors of VSE Corporation and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. He is a member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association.
