Daring to Reach New Heights: U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation 2019 Annual Report
Support to the Academy, perhaps the most important aspect of our mission, topped $37.6 million—the most in our history. Generous contributions from alumni and friends like you made possible the provision of $17.4 million to academic programs, $6.9 million to athletic programs, $6.4 million to leadership and character development programs, $1.9 million to admissions efforts, $1.9 million in unrestricted resources and more than $3.1 million to other programs. The steady drumbeat of positive news coming out of the Academy illustrates the impact of this investment: the most talented plebe classes, year after year; graduating midshipmen regularly selected for prestigious Rhodes, Gates Cambridge, Schwarzman and Marshall scholarships; a growing range of international opportunities; increasing opportunities for cyber and other STEM majors; midshipman victories in cyber and engineering design competitions; consistent progress on new facilities including Hopper Hall and the Terwilliger Center for Student-Athletes at Ricketts Hall; and of course, great Navy athletics achievements, including the return of the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy following a record-tying 11-2 regular football season as well as victory in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and a season-ending ranking of No. 20 in the nation.
We’ve also enjoyed our own exceptional moments at the Alumni Association and Foundation. We marked the 75th anniversary of Athletic and Scholarship Programs, the precursor to today’s Naval Academy Foundation, in November 2019. We’ve moved forward with plans for a future Alumni Association and Foundation Center to better serve the needs of all alumni. We’ve strengthened our investments in Alumni Association and Foundation technology and processes to improve performance and efficiency and will continue to do so in the years to come.
In 2019, we welcomed our 63rd Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Admiral Sean Buck ’83, USN. As our campaign advances toward its conclusion in fall 2020, timed to coincide with the celebration of the Academy’s 175th anniversary, we look forward to continuing to build upon the energy and generosity demonstrated by our alumni, parents and friends.
