Mel Meinhardt is a Chief Investment Officer for Common Sense Investment Management and is responsible for the financial strategies of an investment portfolio of the firm. He is expert at the design and control of portfolios of managed futures, and holds three US process patents in the field.  Prior to joining CSIM, he held similar positions in New York-based asset management firms.

Meinhardt served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy’s attack submarine force until 1985 when he joined the Central Intelligence Agency. He served in the CIA’s Office of Science and Technology/Office of Special Projects as a technology manager until 1994. After leaving government service, he served as a technology and market strategist within firms including Westinghouse Electronics and Tyco Fire and Security.  He continued to serve in the Naval Reserves in fleet and staff billets until retirement.

Mr. Mel Meinhardt is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1980, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree.  His MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania was earned in 1995.  His professional engineering license was first granted in 1986. 

He is president of the Greater Miami Chapter USNAAA, an active Blue and Gold Officer and is active in Miami’s civic and professional organizations.  Support of USNA-related STEM programs within area schools is his particular passion.  He married Lauren Smith of Pittsburgh, PA in 2004.
