Meet Nancy Murray

Meet Nancy Murray, senior director of Alumni Engagement at the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation. In her role, she oversees chapters, SIGs, classes, parent clubs, myUSNA, the travel program, and Alumni Association membership. Murray and her team support the “Connect” pillar of Strategic Plan 2030, working to build Naval Academy connections.

Q: What do you like about your job?

Murray: What I love about my job is getting to know all the alumni, the parents, and really understanding where they're coming from. Understanding their connection to one another and the Naval Academy, what excites them about being involved, and how all of that supports the academy. It's about the outreach the alumni and parent community engage in to spread the word out about the academy to hopefully encourage people to seek nominations to attend. So, again, it's all about outreach, growing their connection with one another, and strengthening those bonds of alumni, families and the community.

Q: What are some ways you and your team are working to grow membership?

Murray: It's about having people feel that engagement and wanting to get more involved, whether it’s by joining their local chapter or parent club or a SIG (which is not tied to any specific geography). Whether it's networking among themselves or doing things to support the academy, it's all about building relationships. I love getting out there and meeting people where they are.

Q: What is your goal in this position for the next year or so?

Murray: Our goal over the next few years is to visit every chapter and parent club to share the amazing things we’re doing at the Alumni Association and to learn how we can better support them. I can’t wait to meet the amazing alumni and parents who continue to connect with the academy in their local communities.
