Gregg Hamelin ’72

CAPe Fear Chapter Trustee

Gregg grew up in Verona, New Jersey. He attended and earned a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1972. While on active duty, he served as a pilot in the Navy for two squadron tours, earned his M.S. in mathematical modeling at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA., and taught applied mathematics and computer science at Annapolis. In 1983, he transferred to the Naval Reserve and joined GE Aerospace. He is a retired Navy Captain (O6).

Gregg started GE as a mathematician, but advanced into system engineering and system integration leadership. He has held Director-level positions in program management, business development, engineering, and major ($B) capture activities. During that time, through mergers and acquisitions, GE Aerospace became Lockheed Martin Corporation. In his last position, he was the head of Ground Systems, a $900M a year business. Most of his positions were space system-related, supporting customers in the intelligence community. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2010.

Gregg has supported multiple volunteer efforts over the years, including Habitat for Humanity, the USO, and The First Tee. Most recently, he served as vice president of the Landfall Foundation Board of Directors, which raises over $600,000 each year and distributes it to local, underserved charities in the Wilmington, NC area.

Gregg is married to his wife Sharon, of Raleigh, NC. They live in Wilmington, NC. They have two children and three grandchildren. Gregg enjoys swimming, bike riding, trap shooting, and golf, although he’s not very good at any of them.
