Reaching Your Midshipman in an Emergency

In order to reach your Mid in case of an emergency you must follow the appropriate Chain of Command.  Only a parent or guardian of a Midshipman or the Red Cross can inform the Academy of a family emergency.  The Academy can not accept notification from a Sponsor Parent or another relative.

Your son or daughter's Company Officer is the first person to call.  If you do not have the name and phone number of this officer, you may call the Main Office at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The Main Office number is 410-293-5001.  Immediately ask to speak to the Command Duty Officer and tell them that you are calling about a family emergency.  If he/she is not immediately available, leave a number and ask that they page him/her and that your call be returned.  You will probably get a returned telephone call within 5 minutes.

If you wish a Chaplain to be involved in the notification of your midshipman, tell that to the Command Duty Officer also.  There is always a Duty Chaplain, and he/she can be reached after hours by the Command Duty Officer. A Chaplain, if that is your wish, will be available to support or counsel your midshipman during this time.

Your midshipman's Company Officer will have all the information necessary to locate your child, communicate your message, and help him/her arrange leave and transportation if required.
