Meet the Volunteers

After I-day July 2000, while her daughter was still doing NAPS Indoc, Karen Grimm began webmastering the NAPS Parent Page. She moved the site from Geocities to the USNA Alumni Association Server in 2004. She was joined by Georgette Nichols as guestbook moderator and mentor in 2003. Terry Thiel joined the team in the summer of 2005 as a guestbook moderator and mentor. Connie Arroyo joined the team in the fall of 2005 and has taken over the webmastering duties. Karen continues to over see the site as a Technical Advisor. Our current NAPS administrative contact is Command Master Chief King. We are very fortunate to have his support and attention.

Parents have added to the page by emailing suggestions, quotes and glossary terms. The center stone of the page is the communication between parents that is possible with the guestbook. Please feel free to add to this support system for those of us supporting our kids in NAPS. What makes this page special is the personal relationships that can develop when you respond to a posting or question in the guestbook.

The NAPS Parent website was a godsend to me and my family. When our son was entering the NAPS Class of 2005, I read all the postings – every single one from every single year. And I have to admit I cried through most of them the first time through. I also had no idea what to expect and the parents who posted helped me understand my new role in my son's life.

We recently relocated to Woodberry Forest, VA from Minneapolis, MN. My husband, John, and I have two sons, TJ and Nate. TJ graduated from NAPS in 2005 and is currently a 2/C at USNA. Nate is a freshman at Washington College in Maryland.

Both my husband and I were so happy and proud when our son Brian was accepted to the NAPS Class of 2006. Our family has a long history with the military and the Navy in particular. My husband Dan retired from the Navy in 2001 and I also served in the Navy in my younger years. After 21 years as a “Navy Wife”, I was excited to now have a new role as a “Navy Mom”.

In addition to our son, my husband and I have a daughter Tiffany who is currently attending Duquesne School of Law.
