The NAPS grading system is a process that combines grades in each course into a cumulative grade point average. The three-step process and two examples (MP1 and MP3) are below.
Step 1. Course Quality Points. The basis for course quality points is:
Score Quality Points 00 - 59 0.0 60 - 64 1.0 65 - 69 1.5 70 - 74 2.0 75 - 79 2.5 80 - 84 3.0 85 - 89 3.5 90 - 99 4.0Added to the base quality points is a 0.1 for an intermediate program course and a 0.3 for an advanced program course.
Step 2. Trimester Quality Point Average (TQPA). The
determination of the Trimester Quality Point Average (TQPA) is:
TQPA = (English x 4 + Math x 10 + Chem x 5 + Phys x 5)/24
Step 3. Cumulative Quality Point Average (CQPA).
Graduation depends on the Cumulative Quality Point Average (CQPA). For the first
trimester the CQPA equals the TQPA. At the end of the second and third trimesters
the CQPA involves the averaging of trimester course grades. At these times the
cumulative quality points (CQP) for each course is the quality points determined
by the average of the trimester scores. The formula for the CQPA has the same
weight factors as the formula for the TQPA. Minimum graduation requirements
are a cumulative quality point in each course of 1.0 (60 average) and a 2.0
CQPA.
MP1 Example: An example for the 1st trimester is:
COURSE PROGRAM GRADE QUALITY POINTS English Foundation 72 2.0 Math Intermediate 78 2.6 Chemistry Intermediate 82 3.1 Physics Advanced 85 3.8CQPA = TQPA = (2.0 x 4 + 2.6 x 10 + 3.1 x 5 + 3.8 x 5)/24 = 2.854
MP3 Example: An example for the 3rd trimester is:
COURSE PROGRAM GRADESAV CUM QUAL PTS* English Foundation 72, 78, 80 77 2.5 Math Intermediate 78, 80, 82 80 3.1 Chemistry Intermediate 82, 88, 86 85 3.6 Physics Advanced 85, 87, 90 87 3.8 * 0.5 or higher rounds upCQPA = (2.5 x 4 + 3.1 x 10 + 3.6 x 5 + 3.8 x 5)/24 = 3.250
Hope this helps.
